Lorna Vassallo is a Legal Procurator specialized in Maltese Law, Economics and International Relations (B.A., L.P.) as well as European Law (Masters). She is presently reading her second Masters in Translation and Interpretation at the University of Malta. Inspite of this she has mainly lead a teaching career over the years amongst which as part-time French /German lecturer with the Institute of Tourism Studies, Pembroke as well as a guiding course examiner at the same institute. Languages along with politics are Lorna's passion and apart from European languages she has also obtained certification in Arabic and Russian. She has kept in touch with these languages also through touristic guiding. Along the years she has also read short courses in Diplomacy, Maritime Law and Writing. In the past, she worked on the production and presentation of various Radio and TV programmes dealing with current affairs, legal and political matters as well as other cultural themes. She has travelled to a number of countries including those in Latin America, North Africa and Asia . She has occupied posts in local committees of the Malta Labour Party, contested Local Council and MLP Internal elections as well as the 2003 and 2008 general elections on the 12th district (Mellieha, Naxxar, San Pawl). For the last eleven years she has contributed weekly to the Maltese daily "L-Orizzont" writing mainly about the EU-membership issue (until 2003), and from then onwards about national politics. From 2004 to 2006 she also contributed on a regular basis to "The Times of Malta" as well as produced high-level theatrical performances with Malta Labour Party. She published the book "Il-Ktejjeb tal-Hrejjef" that retells the story of Maltese contemporary politics in a fable-like format .. This year she is also finalizing a book about the Maltese Language whilst in the meantime working on the production of Molière's french play 'The learned ladies' which she has earlier on translated into the Maltese language and which will be staged in the near future . Her past-times are writing, studying languages, historical re-enactments, writing, reading, singing and travelling.
